Klay Thompson's Corner 3 With 1 Second Left Lifts Heat Past Clippers in Overtime
By The Arena Staff
INGLEWOOD, Calif., Nov. 5, 2026 — Bam Adebayo set the screen, and Klay Thompson did what he has done for most of his career.
Thompson's corner 3-pointer with one second left in overtime gave the Miami Heat a 117-116 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night at Intuit Dome. Adebayo's screen along the baseline freed him for the shot. Thompson finished with 30 points and made 8 of 17 3-pointers. It was his first 30-point game since April 2024, The Associated Press reported.
"I can't lie to you, felt really good," Thompson said. "I feel amazing. I haven't felt this good in a long time."
Miami had no business being in position to win. The Heat trailed by 20 points in the second quarter and were still down 10 with about 4 1/2 minutes left in regulation before a 9-0 run pulled them back into it, according to the AP and the Los Angeles Times.
Adebayo had season highs of 35 points and 10 rebounds, and Giannis Antetokounmpo added 27 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. Coach Erik Spoelstra pointed to the play that never shows up in a box score. "Bam had one heck of a screen," he said. Adebayo agreed. "That's probably my best screen, for sure," he said, adding that Thompson "is one of the greatest shooters in league history."
Darius Garland scored 26 points with seven assists for the Clippers, who have lost seven straight since winning their opener against Sacramento on Oct. 21 and are 1-7. The Heat, who started the season 0-4, have won three of four to get to 3-5.
Thompson's next stop is a familiar one. Miami plays at Golden State on Thursday night.
