Eagles Bench Tanner McKee, Will Start Joe Milton III Against Giants
By The Arena Staff
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 5, 2026 — On Monday, Nick Sirianni said Tanner McKee was the Eagles' quarterback. By Wednesday, Philadelphia had moved on to Joe Milton III.
The Eagles will start Milton on Sunday against the New York Giants and bench McKee, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday. It will be the first career start for Milton, who signed with Philadelphia off the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad on Oct. 16, less than three weeks ago.
The switch comes with the Eagles at 2-6 and on a six-game losing streak. Jalen Hurts has not played since Oct. 11 and is out for the season with blood clots in his lungs, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia. McKee lost all three of his starts in place of Hurts, completing 72 of 114 passes for 638 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, NFL.com reported. In Sunday's 27-10 loss to Washington, the Eagles led 10-0 before the offense stalled.
"Tanner's our guy," Sirianni said Monday. "We're not making any changes there."
He sounded different Wednesday, less than two hours before the news broke. "I think he's worked really hard," Sirianni said of Milton. "He is always in the building, doing the extra things. I like his progression."
Milton, 26, was a sixth-round pick by New England in 2024 out of Tennessee. The 6-foot-5 quarterback has played in five NFL games, all in relief, completing 37 of 53 passes for 424 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He brings a strong arm and the ability to run, a different look for an offense that has struggled to block and sustain drives.
Milton will be the fourth quarterback the Eagles have turned to this season, after Hurts, Andy Dalton and McKee. The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 10.
