Oklahoma Humane Society breaks ground on a $40 million campus in Oklahoma City
The 53,000-square-foot campus on Southwest 15th Street will put adoptions, a spay and neuter clinic and low-cost vet care under one roof for the first time. The group has raised more than $32 million and expects to open in spring 2028.
OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 7) — The Oklahoma Humane Society broke ground Thursday on a $40 million campus in southwest Oklahoma City that will bring its main programs together in one place for the first time, News 9 reported.
The 53,000-square-foot campus will sit on 14.5 acres at 4001 S.W. 15th St., near Portland Avenue. Plans include an adoption center, a spay and neuter clinic, low-cost veterinary services and humane education programs, KOCO reported. It will also be the group's first site with overnight housing for dogs.
President and CEO Mark Eby said the group took in almost 40% of the animals leaving Oklahoma City Animal Welfare last year and wants to double that. He told KOCO the new clinic could serve 30,000 to 40,000 animals a year.
The project is privately funded through the "Unleash the Possibilities" campaign, which has raised more than $32 million toward its $40 million goal. Shannon Presti of the Presti Family Foundation, a donor, told News 9 that some owners give up pets over vet bills they cannot afford, and that lower-cost care can keep those animals at home.
Construction is expected to take about two years, with the campus opening in spring 2028, KOCO reported.
