A Keene Woman Says Urgent Care Staff Went Home and Left Her Locked Inside an Exam Room

She thought this only happened in movies. Then she texted her husband to call 911.

KEENE, N.H., Oct. 25, 2026 — Tia Chandler went to urgent care for an asthma attack. She left with the help of 911.

Chandler, 46, told WMUR that a staff member at the ConvenientMD clinic on Winchester Street gave her a steroid shot around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, and said they'd be right back. Nobody came back.

She tried to be patient. "I knew that they were slammed at the end of the day so I was trying to give them some grace," she told The Keene Sentinel. By about 8:20 p.m., some 20 minutes after closing time, she realized she was the only person in the building.

"I pop my head out and said, 'Hello? Hello?'" Chandler told WMUR. She checked the front of the clinic, found no one, and texted her husband: "They locked me in. Call 911."

She said she'd been telling herself it couldn't happen. "That only happens in movies or on a show, not in real life," she recalled thinking.

Chandler got out of the building on her own but set off the alarm doing it, and first responders arrived. Keene police confirmed they responded to a call about a person who left the clinic after hours and tripped the alarm.

ConvenientMD apologized, saying the incident "should never have happened" and that it has taken steps to make sure it doesn't happen again. Chandler said she probably won't be going back.
