COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 7, 2026 — Through the first quarter on Saturday, Ohio State looked like Ohio State again. Then Oregon scored 38 points in a row, and the Buckeyes' season came apart in front of 103,551 people at Ohio Stadium.

Dierre Hill Jr. ran for two touchdowns, Dylan Raiola threw for 257 yards and two more, and the Ducks, No. 23 in the College Football Playoff rankings, rallied from a 14-0 hole to beat No. 12 Ohio State 41-28. The Associated Press reported that many of the fans in the stands were gone by the middle of the fourth quarter.

Bo Jackson had given the Buckeyes that early cushion with touchdown runs of 16 and 8 yards. Oregon's answer started with a gamble. Facing fourth-and-9, linebacker Teitum Tuioti took the snap on a fake punt and found fellow linebacker Matayo Uiagalelei near the right sideline for a 30-yard gain. Six plays later, Hill scored from 9 yards out. Devin Jackson then intercepted Luke Fahey, and tight end Jamari Johnson punched in a 2-yard run as the half expired to put the Ducks up 17-14.

"We'd seen a look, we felt confident," Oregon coach Dan Lanning told the AP of the fake. "It certainly created some momentum."

The second half was all Oregon. Hill cut right and broke three tackles on a 48-yard touchdown run on the opening drive of the third quarter. Dakorien Moore made a one-handed catch in the back corner of the end zone over Dominick Kelly to make it 31-14, and Brandon Smith took a screen pass 15 yards for another score early in the fourth. By then, the AP noted, Jeremiah Smith was yelling at coaches and teammates on the Ohio State sideline.

Fahey, making his second start with Julian Sayin out with an arm injury, finished 36 of 50 for 360 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, but the AP said 178 of those yards and both scoring throws came in the fourth quarter with the game out of reach. Jeremiah Smith caught seven passes for 133 yards and a touchdown.

The numbers are rough for Ohio State. The Buckeyes (6-3, 4-2 Big Ten) have lost two straight for the first time since 2011, and NCAA.com noted it is also the first time since 2011 they have lost three games in a season. Ryan Day had never lost three games in a season in his eight years as head coach. "Once the momentum swung, we weren't able to stop that and then swing it," Day said.

For Oregon (6-3, 4-2), it was a measure of revenge for the 41-21 Rose Bowl loss that ended its 2024 season, and a second straight win since the Ducks lost two of three after quarterback Dante Moore's season-ending concussion. "We just kept stacking plays," Raiola said. Oregon hosts Michigan next Saturday, and Ohio State hosts Northwestern.
