Trump says he offered the White House press secretary job to UFC chief Dana White

President Trump announced the offer Saturday on Truth Social, and the White House did not immediately confirm it. A source told CNN that White is not taking the job, while White said he has a meeting with the president on Monday.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 7) — President Donald Trump said Saturday that he has offered the job of White House press secretary to Dana White, the chief executive of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and a longtime friend, The Associated Press reported. No one in the White House immediately confirmed the offer.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social while at his golf club in Florida. "I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States," he wrote. He said he had asked White to bring several UFC fighters along as "assistants," naming Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje and Amanda Nunes among them, and ended the post with "Dana, please take the job!" according to NBC News.

It was not clear whether the post amounted to a formal offer, The Washington Post reported, and the post did not lay out any next steps. A source familiar with the matter told CNN that White was not taking the job, ESPN reported.

White, who was in London for a boxing event, did not settle the question there. He told reporters Saturday evening that he was flying to Washington that night and had a meeting scheduled with the president on Monday. "We have a meeting on Monday, so sure, I'll have more to talk about after that," he said, according to NBC News.

The press secretary job has been open since Katie Zacharia left in October after five days in the role, NBC News reported. She had replaced Karoline Leavitt, who announced in August that she was leaving to spend more time with her family.

The offer came a day after another change at the top of the White House staff. On Friday, Trump named deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller to replace Susie Wiles as chief of staff, effective Monday.
