Twelve people, half of them minors, hurt in shooting near Florida A&M stadium after homecoming game

Eleven people were shot and a twelfth was hurt while running away when gunfire broke out near Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee on Saturday night, police said. Six of the injured are under 18, and no arrests have been made.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Oct. 25) — Twelve people were injured, six of them minors, when gunfire broke out near Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium on Saturday night during the school's homecoming weekend, Tallahassee police said.

The shooting happened just before 8 p.m. near Perry and Manatee streets, a short walk from the stadium, about two hours after FAMU's homecoming game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff ended, according to WCTV and the Tallahassee Democrat. Eleven people were shot. The twelfth, the grandmother of one of the victims, was hurt while fleeing, Police Chief Lawrence Revell said at a news conference shortly after midnight.

"I stand before you tonight devastated," Revell said, according to the Tallahassee Democrat. The youngest victim is 11 years old, and one of the injured is believed to be a FAMU student, he said.

Three victims were seriously hurt, and one remained in critical condition Sunday morning, police said. Five people have been released from the hospital and six are still being treated, WCTV reported.

Revell said early findings point to a physical altercation between two or three people before the shots were fired, and he described it as an isolated incident. Police believe one shooter was involved, NBC News reported. No one has been arrested, and investigators have not named a person of interest.

FAMU sent a shelter-in-place alert at 8:40 p.m., and Florida State University, about a mile away, later advised students and staff in the area to stay indoors, NBC News and the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Tallahassee Police Department or Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.
