A Pennsylvania Retiree Saw 1,207 Movies in Theaters in One Year, a Guinness World Record
That's 3.3 movies a day, every day, for a year.
YORK HAVEN, Pa., Nov. 3, 2026 — Most people see a handful of movies in a theater each year. Glenwood Hoskin Jr. saw 1,207.
The 60-year-old retiree spent April 2024 through April 2025 at his local Regal theater in York Haven, near Harrisburg, and averaged 3.3 movies a day, Guinness World Records said. That earned him the record for most films seen in a cinema in one year. The old mark was 777, set by Zachariah Swope.
Hoskin treated it like a job. Each morning he checked the day's listings and mapped out how to fit in as many showings as he could, from early morning until midnight. "I am also an organized person, so the work I put into this also made it enjoyable," he told Guinness, as UPI reported. "I really found it enjoyable being out of the house, and I always like a challenge and a goal to meet."
He actually looked at a different record first: most times seeing the same movie in theaters. That one stands at 292, held by a man who saw "Spider-Man: No Way Home" that many times. Hoskin decided it was out of reach because new movies leave theaters for streaming so quickly now.
The timing of his attempt was planned, too. He started in the spring so he would pass 777 before the weather turned. "I hate driving in the winter," he said, "so anything after that was just extra."
Some 430 movies' worth of extra, as it turned out.
