Republican Mike Mazzei wins Oklahoma's governor race, succeeding term-limited Kevin Stitt

Mazzei defeated Democrat Cyndi Munson by roughly 6 points, the closest a Democrat has come in an Oklahoma governor's race in decades. Republicans also held the open U.S. Senate seat and all five House districts.

OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 5) — Republican Mike Mazzei won Oklahoma's governor race on Tuesday, defeating Democrat Cyndi Munson as term-limited Gov. Kevin Stitt prepares to leave office, KOCO reported.

Mazzei took about 52% of the vote to Munson's about 46%, KOCO reported, a gap of roughly 6 points. That was the closest a Democrat has come in an Oklahoma governor's race in decades and far tighter than Stitt's 14-point win in 2022, the station said. KOSU described Mazzei, a former state senator, as winning with about 53% and Munson, a former House minority leader, with just under 45%.

"I will never, ever give up until those barriers come crashing down and the people of Oklahoma can enjoy a more prosperous and secure life," Mazzei said Tuesday, according to KOCO. He campaigned on taxes, education and the economy under a "Plan for Oklahoma" slogan.

Republicans also kept statewide control elsewhere. T.W. Shannon won the lieutenant governor race with about 58% of the vote, KOCO reported. Rep. Kevin Hern won the open U.S. Senate seat once held by Markwayne Mullin, with about 57% against Democrat N'Kiyla Jasmine Thomas, and all five of Oklahoma's U.S. House seats stayed Republican, according to KOCO and KOSU. Voters rejected State Questions 845 and 847, which would have changed judicial nominations and lowered property-tax assessment caps.
