One killed and six wounded in shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California
Seven people were shot Friday night inside a Spirit Halloween store at the Solano Town Center mall in Fairfield, California, and one died, police said. Police believe it was a targeted attack by one suspect, who had not been identified or arrested as of Saturday morning.
One person was killed and six others were wounded Friday night when gunfire broke out inside a Spirit Halloween store at the Solano Town Center mall in Fairfield, California, on the eve of the holiday, police said.
Officers were called to the store at about 8:30 p.m. local time. Seven people were shot, and one died at the scene, Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall said late Friday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. At least three of the wounded were in critical condition. Their names and ages have not been released.
On Saturday, police said the shooting "stemmed from a targeted incident involving one suspect" inside the store, The Associated Press reported. No one had been detained, and detectives were reviewing video footage and other evidence to identify the person responsible. Police said there was no ongoing threat to the public.
The FBI's Sacramento office sent its Evidence Response Team to help with the investigation, KCRA reported. A witness told the station his wife was inside the store when she heard several shots and people began running.
Spirit Halloween said in a statement that it was cooperating with investigators and that the store would stay closed until further notice.
