A Real Officer Pulled Over Texas Parents Dressed as Cops, Then Saw the Little Robbers in Back

KATY, Texas, Nov. 2, 2026 — Carissa and Jim Navarrette picked a family Halloween theme that seemed simple enough. The parents would be police officers. The kids would be robbers. Then a real police officer pulled them over.

The family had just left a trunk-or-treat at their youngest child's daycare in Katy, they told FOX 26 Houston. On the drive home, they got into the usual debate about where to eat. Jim pulled up at an intersection to make a U-turn, Carissa changed her mind at the last second, and he dropped the turn and kept going. That bit of indecision apparently caught the eye of an officer nearby.

As the lights came on behind them, Jim started to worry that two adults in police uniforms might make the stop look worse, not better. According to the family's account, the officer walked up to the car and asked which precinct they were from.

Then he looked in the back seat and saw the robbers.

Once the family explained where they'd been, the officer started laughing, The Mary Sue reported. He joked about having candy, went back to his car to check Jim's ID and let the family go with a warning. Carissa called him "really, really cool" about the whole thing.

She didn't film the first part of the stop. The family was nervous, she said, and wanted to respect the officer's privacy. She only started recording once he walked back to his car, and that clip is the one that took off on TikTok. Her teenage daughters noticed right away that their mom was suddenly pulling more views than they do.

The family planned to wear the same costumes for Halloween night. Their son already knew which side he wanted. He'd rather be a robber again, he said, because sitting in the back is funnier.

"Respect in, respect out," Carissa said.
