Texas Racetrack Unveils a 47-Foot Cowboy Hat. Guinness Says It's the World's Largest.
It's 43 feet wide, 17 feet tall and has a working bar underneath. Just in time for the Grand Prix weekend.
AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 23, 2026 — Everything is bigger in Texas, and the state's biggest hat is now official. Circuit of the Americas, the Austin racetrack that hosts this weekend's Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, has unveiled a cowboy hat sculpture that Guinness World Records certified as the world's largest, FOX 7 Austin and UPI reported.
The hat measures 43 feet wide, 47 feet long and 17 feet tall, not counting the piers it sits on, according to FOX 7. It's built from fiberglass and foam around a steel frame.
## Four Years in the Making
The track built the hat with Austin-based westernwear brand Tecovas. FOX 7 reported the two worked on it for four years. It's a to-scale copy of one of the brand's cowboy hats, blown up to the size of a small building.
A Guinness World Records adjudicator inspected the sculpture at the unveiling and confirmed it as the world's largest fiberglass sculpture of a hat, UPI reported.
## Shade, With a Bar
It's more than a selfie spot. There's a fully working bar under the brim, according to FOX 7, so race fans get shade and a drink in the same place.
"This is a beautiful piece of art with a practical purpose — a place for fans to gather, enjoy some shade, and experience a little Texas hospitality," COTA Chairman Bobby Epstein said in a news release quoted by FOX 7.
Tecovas CEO David Lafitte linked the hat to the track's main event. "There is a natural synergy between racing and the West — both require a respect for skill, resilience, and wide-open possibility," he said, according to FOX 7.
## Race Weekend Under the Brim
The unveiling came just before the Grand Prix weekend, which runs Oct. 22–25 at COTA. Sunday's race is set for about 3 p.m. Central, FOX 7 reported. The track and Tecovas are also holding a second annual "Haturday" on Oct. 24.
Fans who miss the race weekend can still see it later. Officials told FOX 7 the hat will be a permanent fixture at the track.
