A Rhode Island Grower's 3,156-Pound Pumpkin Is the First Ever to Top 3,000 Pounds

The world record for heaviest pumpkin fell twice in one week. The second time, it wasn't close.

WARREN, R.I., Oct. 24, 2026 — The world record for heaviest pumpkin fell twice in one week this month. The second time, a Rhode Island grower blew past a number nobody had ever reached.

Ron Wallace, 60, of Coventry, Rhode Island, grew a pumpkin that weighed 3,156 pounds, or 1,431.5 kilograms, at an Oct. 10 weigh-off at Frerichs Farm in Warren, Guinness World Records said. It is the first pumpkin ever recorded at more than 3,000 pounds.

## A Record That Lasted a Week

Just a week earlier, on Oct. 3, English grower Ian Paton had set the record with a 2,856-pound pumpkin, according to Guinness and USA Today. Wallace's pumpkin beat it by 300 pounds.

## Not His First Time

This is Wallace's third heaviest-pumpkin world record, according to Guinness. He first held it in 2006 with a 1,502-pound pumpkin and again in 2012 with one that weighed 2,009 pounds.

This year he tried something new: it was his first season growing in a greenhouse, Guinness and WPRI reported.

For scale, 3,156 pounds is heavier than many small cars.
