ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 24, 2026 — For 60 minutes, nobody at Michigan Stadium could find the end zone. Josh Hoover found it in overtime, and that was enough.

Hoover ran 4 yards for a touchdown on Indiana's second snap of overtime, and the No. 6 Hoosiers held on for a 13-6 win over Michigan on Saturday, according to the Associated Press. It was Indiana's first win in Ann Arbor since 1967, the AP and USA Today reported.

The defending national champions (7-1, 4-1 Big Ten) were coming off a 19-15 loss to Ohio State that ended their 22-game winning streak. Under coach Curt Cignetti, they have not lost two in a row in three years, the AP noted, and they did not start now.

It was not pretty. Hoover, who USA Today said was still bothered by an arm and shoulder problem from the Ohio State game, finished 8 of 18 for 81 yards and threw his first interception of the season. Cignetti said as much after the game. "He wasn't 100% today, you know all week. We knew he'd play... it was rough," he told Fox's Jenny Taft, according to USA Today. "We found a way. It wasn't pretty, but it's a win."

Michigan (4-3, 1-3) started freshman Tommy Carr at quarterback and sat Bryce Underwood, the AP reported. Carr, whose brother is Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr, had sparked the Wolverines off the bench in last week's win over Penn State. This time he lost a fumble on a pitch in the first quarter and threw an interception before halftime, USA Today reported, and Indiana turned those chances into two Nico Radicic field goals for a 6-0 halftime lead.

The Wolverines kept getting close and coming away empty. On their first drive of the second half they reached the Indiana 1, but Carr was sacked for a 13-yard loss on third-and-goal and Trey Butkowski missed a 32-yard field goal, according to USA Today and the AP. Zeke Berry's 37-yard interception return of a Hoover pass set up a Butkowski field goal from 29 yards. In the final minute of regulation, Michigan got to the Indiana 3 before Carr was sacked for a fourth time, and Butkowski tied it with a 26-yarder as time expired.

Overtime took two plays for Indiana. Hoover hit tight end Brock Schott for 21 yards, then kept it himself for the game's only touchdown, USA Today reported.

Michigan's turn in overtime had one more twist. Carr converted a fourth-and-5 with a 7-yard run, according to USA Today. But on a second fourth down, from the Indiana 13, his pass hit the turf in front of Salesi Moa just outside the end zone, the AP said, and the game was over.

Carr finished 20 of 32 for 167 yards. Michigan outgained Indiana 224 yards to 212, according to ESPN, and still never scored a touchdown.
