MILWAUKEE, Oct. 24, 2026 — Five batters into World Series Game 2, the Milwaukee Brewers were down 4-0. By the end of the night they were two wins from a championship.

Cooper Pratt singled home Brice Turang in the seventh inning, Milwaukee's bullpen threw six scoreless innings and the Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 on Saturday night at American Family Field for a 2-0 series lead.

It was a long way back. The game opened with Pratt bouncing a throw to first on Yandy Díaz's leadoff grounder, MLB.com reported. Chandler Simpson and Junior Caminero followed with run-scoring hits off Logan Henderson, and Liam Hicks drove a two-run homer an estimated 411 feet to right-center. It was the first home run of this World Series and the most runs the Rays had ever scored in a World Series inning, according to MLB.com.

Milwaukee chipped away right away. William Contreras and Garrett Mitchell singled in runs in the bottom of the first, and Pratt scored on a fielding error by Jonathan Aranda in the fourth to make it 4-3.

Then came the swing nobody saw coming. Sal Frelick led off the sixth against left-hander Ian Seymour, who had just entered, and hit a solo homer to straightaway center to tie it. Frelick hit four home runs all regular season, and MLB.com noted it was only the fourth homer of his career off a lefty and his first since Opening Day. MLB said it was also Milwaukee's first World Series home run since Ben Oglivie's in Game 7 in 1982.

Jackson Chourio had already kept the deficit at one. In the top of the sixth, he threw out Hicks at the plate from the outfield, and the call held up on review, CBS Sports reported.

In the seventh, Turang doubled and scored when Pratt singled to right off Kevin Kelly. It capped a strange night for the Brewers shortstop, who started it with an error and ended it with the biggest hit of the game.

From there the Milwaukee bullpen held on. JoJo Romero, Dustin May, DL Hall, Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby combined for six shutout innings after Henderson left following the third, according to the ESPN box score. Chourio was thrown out at home in the eighth on a fielder's choice, a call that stood after a Brewers challenge, and Ashby struck out Díaz swinging to end it.

MLB.com pointed out that only four teams in postseason history had won two games in the same October after trailing by four or more runs. The Brewers already came back from four down to clinch the pennant against the Dodgers in Game 4 of the NLCS. Saturday made two.

Teams that take a 2-0 lead have won 45 of 55 best-of-seven World Series, according to MLB.com. Game 3 is Monday night at Tropicana Field.
