Police Say a Suspected Street Racer Fled Onto an Active Airport Runway and Crashed Into a Jet
The chase started because the car was going too slow. It ended inside an airplane hangar.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Oct. 24, 2026 — Police say the trouble started because a suspected street racer was driving too slowly. It ended with a Dodge Challenger inside an airplane hangar.
Detectives with Phoenix's street-racing task force were watching a known street-racing group on the night of Oct. 17 when they spotted a black Dodge Challenger near State Route 51 and Bethany Home Road, according to court documents reported by AZFamily. The car was going so slowly on the freeway that it was blocking traffic, the documents say, so detectives turned on their sirens.
The driver didn't stop.
## A GPS Tag and a Helicopter
Instead of chasing on the ground, police launched a GPS tracking device onto the car's back bumper and followed it by helicopter from Phoenix to Scottsdale, FOX 10 Phoenix and AZFamily reported. The car stopped at a locked security gate at Scottsdale Airport.
When officers moved in, police say the driver reversed into a detective's vehicle, then drove through the gate and onto an active runway.
## Planes Were Landing
Commercial and private planes were taking off and landing at the time, according to the court documents. The driver weaved around several parked planes, narrowly missing them, then rammed through a closed hangar door and crashed into a "very expensive" parked jet, AZFamily reported. The plane was unoccupied, according to FOX 10.
Air traffic controllers warned pilots that "there was a police chase that ended up on the airfield," according to audio aired by FOX 10.
Both people in the car ran toward the tarmac before officers caught them, police said. Police used a stun gun on the passenger, who resisted arrest, and he was later taken to a hospital, AZFamily reported.
## The Charges
Police identified the driver as Liberty Dawn Still, 33, of Glendale, and the passenger as Michael Gregory Wall, 24. Still faces charges including unlawful flight from law enforcement, obstructing a highway, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license, and Wall is accused of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest, according to AZFamily. Both are also accused of refusing to give their legal names.
Police said the FBI is investigating the trespassing onto airport property, and more charges could follow. The cases had not gone to trial as of the latest reports.
"It's an active runway, so the potential danger of what could happen? Who knows," Phoenix police Sgt. Chris Berrelleza told FOX 10.
